Halloween in Zakarpattia

Today is October 31st - Halloween. The weather has definitely started to change. Every morning there is fog, frost on the ground, and a layer of ice in the outdoor basin.

This morning we went to the market in Serednie, to buy a few piglets.

Afterward, Ivan prepared potato halushki. Klara finished:

After lunch, I went into Uzhgorod, to go to the English School. Since I had some time to kill, I first went to the Museum of Folk Architecture. Inside the main hall was a display of art created by a local artist, using tree roots.

The artist:

I'd seen the outdoor skansen before, but I have new photos which show a lot of detail I missed last year. I plan on showing photos in separate post, but to give you a taste, here are some photos of the wooden church in the skansen:

From the skansen, I went to the English school, were there was a Halloween party for the children. Halloween has just been catching on here over the past 3-4 years.

Following Maryna's childrens' class, I joined an adult class. I knew some from earlier.....had a great time. The class invited me back, and want me to go on an excursion with them to Lake Synovir. ....OK!!!! Fine with me!!! Let's go!!

Earlier in the day, I had run into my cousin Alina, who's attending art school in Bratislava. She said that she would be working at her parent's cafe, Mir Cafe, and to stop by because there would be a small Halloween party. Below, Alina in German barmaid costume, with zombie friend:

Halloween in Teatralna Square:

By this time, it was after 9, and the marshrutka to Davtsi had quit running, so I decided to get something to eat in town before getting a taxi. I can't remember the name of the restaurant - it was down in some basement about second level down - but great decor and fantastic food! I can't believe I just finished one of the best restaurant meals I've ever had, at a price of about $5, including a large glass of premium Czech beer!.....Goodnight!!
